Vienna-based glass and chandelier producer J. & L. lobmeyr celebrates the 80th anniversary of Austrian designer adolf loos’s legendary no. 248 bar set. The cylindrical glass tumbler, considered to be provocatively simple at its conception, has been produced by lobmeyr ever since.

A year ago, David Meldrum, successful illustrator and graphic designer, set himself an unusual artistic and culinary challenge. Starting on 15th June 2010, he decided to illustrate everything that he ate or drank, every day, for a year and so it was The Food Illustrator was born.

David chose to illustrate his food, using acrylic, collage, watercolour, pen and ink, sometimes in its raw form, or on the plate but often in its packaging. The result is an impressive visual diary, and the information revealed therein is strangely intimate.

Artist Statement – “As I begin a painting the subject physically, emotionally and spiritually reveals itself to me. Each brushstroke speaks to the subsequent stroke, carrying out a dialogue, linking my subject and me as if we were meeting for the first time. I find this uncertainty exciting and embrace the indecisive nature of my work.”
